Researching a profile of Bill Wilson for Time Magazine, I was surprised to find that there was no proper documented biography of Bill, one not written by a friend or relative or by committtee. No one had visited the Edison Labs where he had a famous encounter with the Wizard of Menlo Park; no one had seen the way his Vermont childhood led to the princles of the program he cofounded as an adult. With great trepidation, I decided to write such a biography.
